Midwives for Black Lives

Our Mission

Midwives for Black Lives seeks to improve prenatal, birth and postpartum outcomes for black families through investment in the education and training of black midwives.

While in midwifery school, our founder Monica Larrea de Arellano, witnessed and experienced the many aggressions perpetuated against students and preceptors of color. This, along with all the statistics regarding poor maternal and infant outcomes that people of color face as a result of white supremacy, led to the creation of this scholarship.

Donations in all amounts are welcome. Additionally, we welcome individuals, non-profits or business to join this ally movement.

"Thank you Midwives for Black Lives! My name is Alaina and I am a wife, and mom of four little ones. I have been serving families of color in my community for over 15yrs. Please know your scholarship was not just an investment in my midwifery education, but a seed in helping to improve the birthing experiences and outcomes for Black families of the Central NJ region and state of Philadelphia. I am the only Black student CPM in Central NJ and have the privilege to learn with MLL Alumni, Asasiya Muhammed of Inner Circle Midwifery. Thank you for all your support and efforts and continue Being the Change, one Black Midwife at a time.."
